Going to kick off my album of the week series with one of the most slept on albums in recent years, how so many heads managed to overlook this one is beyond me. Special Teamz consist of mc's Edo G, Slain and Jaysaun. You're probably most familiar with the legendary Edo G, but trust me when I say that Slain and Jay are def worth taking notice too. You've probably noticed now that the theme of this group, and the album as a whole is that each member hails from a different racial backgrounds, Slain is white, Edo is black, Jay is Latino, they use this to play off of each other very well, often going as far as to almost poke fun at each other, themselves, and any race in general, nothing is off limits here.
Lyrically the whole album is on point, covering just about every topic a hip hop fan could hope for, each mc turns in a spectacular performance, Edo G still has a presence that just demands your attention, Slain is proving himself to be one of the most capable mc's in the underground, and Jay proves he can hold his own with these two talented artist. Production is equally as impressive. handled by the likes of Ill Bill, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Jake One and Marco Polo among others, the album offers a lot of producers a chance to flex their creative muscles all the while still tying the album together with a single cohesive sound. Overall the album is dope, an amazing debut album from an out of no where super group.
