starting out a new series of post, calling it my "only on wax" series, i'll randomly be upping singles and ep's that are only available on wax.
Thought I would start if off with one of my favorite mc's, Ill Bill. The ep consist of two songs, the first being 'God is an Atheist' produced by the legendary el-p, the second is 'The Names Bill' produced by theAlchemist. God is an Atheist is Bill at his finest, his rhymes are packed and will most likely take multiple listens for you to decipher, the beat sadly makes this song less then stellar though. el-p is usually one of my favorite producers, the beat he provided bill with on this though simply isnt pleasant on the ears, nor does it fit Bills style or flow. Song could have been amazing had el-p laced Bill with a better beat.
The Names Bill fairs much better, the beat is vintage east coast and fits Bills style nicely, honestly the beat almost sounds like something Preemo would have made in the early 90's. Bill spends most of his time shit talking and showing off his skills on the mic, song doesn't go much deeper subject matter wise but damn it sounds good.
Overall the single ep is nice, the el-p produced track is good for a listen or two but chances are you wont be coming back to it, the Alchemist track though will probably stay in rotation for a while.
Overall - 3/5
