Mixtapes and Promo's all week here at Propz Monkey. I wont be treating these as regular albums, meaning im not going to go all out and in depth review them or more specifically, put any scores at the end, probably going to drop a few quick words on them and be out, anyways these are all from my collection of things ive gotten for free over the years, hopefully you find somthing you enjoy.

First up is a nice mix from...once again, blueprint and RJD2. As you can see from the tracklisting its pretty much remix's and a best of to showcase the best of what both artist have to offer, and they do a fine jod of selecting cuts, nothing but the finest from both of these cats, be it killer Print guest verses or wonderful RJ production, all of it hits on every point. One thing to keep in mind though, dont let the tracklisting deceive you, all of these are on ONE track, meaning you essentially have a 60 minute long, blended mixtape, it can be annoying when you want to skip right to a favorite song but personally I dont mind, its a dope tape to throw on and let ride from front to back, luckily there isn any skip worthy material so it all works out for the best.

Alright, here we are, last Print cd from my "Blueprint of the Week" series. Here's another simple one, the second tour only release from print, it pulls together some rare tracks, some remix's, some freestles, interviews, ect. By now you should be very familiar with Print and know what to expect, this cd is no exception, just cut after cut of unique Ohio hip hop. As individual music the songs are good enough, but looking at the product as a complete package it def has more of a mixtape feel then album, obviously with the freestyles and remix's sprinkled throughout it loses that cohesive, fresh album vibe. Also just to keep it honest, about half of these songs should have never seen the light of day, most of them you wouldnt be able to tell apart from his freestyles which are also included, not a good sign. weak lyrics and bad songwriting pretty much own the first half of the album, luckily the second half delves in to some gems.

*Final Thoughts

-As I said before, Blueprint is one of my favorite producers and rappers, by now im hoping he's made an impact on you as well, hopefully he finds a few new fans through this. His music go's far beyond what ive posted though, while ive covered most of prints solo work (save for the instrumental version of "1988" which I sadly dont own) there's still a world of music out there that he's a part of. Start with the artist on his Weightless Records roster, 90% of the time Print produces all of the album himself, and the rare times he doesnt he still handles the bulk of it. I would recommend 'Illogic - Celestial Clockwork' which i'll up in the coming days. Also dont sleep on his work with RJD2 as 'Soul Position', RJ on the beats, Print on the rhymes, very illy.

Perfect album for those who may like Prints production but not his raps. What we have is a Print produced album featurng a number of different mc's kicking it over his masterful beats. The end result is one of Prints best albums. The production doesnt stray far from Blueprint typical formula, its a nice mix of very dark, grimy beats, mixed with a little bit of funk at times, if you've liked any of his previous production then you shouldnt find too much too not like here. The mc's all do a fantastic job of holding it down, the bigger names like Cann Ox, Illogic and The Orphanage blend perfectly with the handful of mc's you've probably never heard of, there isnt really any bad mc's in the bunch, though you may find some a bit more abstract for your taste. the overall product is simply this, raw production with dope mc's kicking nice rhymes over it, it doesnt go much deeper then that, just a nice throwback to when it was all about the beats and the rhymes

I'll keep this one simple, pretty much a tour only ep that Print threw together with some older tracks that were hard to find. The music is very dope, classic Print material, the best track is probably the Orphanage cut which features all the mc's kicking fantastic rhymes back to back. Again though we can see this ep runs a short 7 tracks, which seeing as its an ep I can cut it some slack but disappointing none the less, Print always leaves you wanting more. The music is def worth checking though.

Another dope concept from the Ohio native, this time its Print visits the sounds of the golden era of hip hop and more specifically, 1988. the production is a nice mixture of both old and new, using the sounds of 1988 as a starting point, then building off of that and adding unique and modern twist along the way. Print finds a nice middle ground of 80's boom bap and modern underground and makes them work together perfectly. As far as lyrics and flow go not much has changed, Prints style has always been strongly influenced by 80's hip hop anyways, its just here it sounds perfectly at home, Prints slow flow mixes perfect with the hard hitting drums and effectively updates the 80's sound and brings it in to the modern era. Songwriting as a whole is very strong, some very dope story telling and concepts are mixed in, and everything comes together and works on every level.

What a fantastic concept, when one of the most gifted and creative beat makers in hip hop decides he wants to experiment with funkadelic then you know you're going to have some good music on your hands. Print handles all the production and mc'ing on this one and doesn't miss a step over the funk filled samples he's cooked up. The way he's integrated some of these funkadelic records in these these songs and so effortlessly turned them in to hip hop is simply staggering. While most producers probably wouldnt even know where to begin with sampling some truly funky records, Print makes it look easy, almost like he's been doing it all along...

No complaints about the music at all, the production is flawless and funky, and Print holds down the mic with outstanding vocals, sharp lyrics, and precise flow. the only possible knock against the album is that again...7 tracks is kinda short, thankfully the instrumentals have been added for every track to help fill the album out. Oddly enough hearing the beats without Print over them is almost like hearing a completely new song, its not somthing that grows stale, its beats you actually WANT to sit and listen too, simply put it doesnt at all feel tacked on. Overall the album is fantastic, funky, and flat out good music.

The follow up to Blueprint's fantastic album 'Chamber Music' falls somewhat short of true greatness. The problem isnt the music itself, which is fantastic, top notch instrumentals, very much in the same vein as 'Chamber Music', only pushed farther in new and interesting directions. The problem as you can see is...well the album is only 8 tracks long, leaving us with under 30 minutes of music. The music that is here is superb, but the experience is simply over to quickly, right when you start to get in to the groove of things the rug is yanked from under you and reality comes crashing back down. Running time aside though the album is musically a worthy follow up, Print proves time and time again why he's one of the most underrated and fantastic beat makers hip hop has to offer. Perfect for the ride to school or work, or maybe even for a nice 30 minute run, had the album been longer it could have been classic, as it stands though its simply a fantastic body of music that ends much too soon.

All this week im going to be paying tribute to one of my favorite producers/mc's, Blueprint. I'll be upping everything Blueprint I own to share with ya'll. To start with I figured I would hit you with one of my all time Favorite Print joints, Chamber music is easily one of Blueprints most focused and well thought out albums. What we get is 10 amazing tracks of instrumentals plus 4 tracks of mc's absolutely trying their best to outshine Prints production, Vast Aire turns in one of his better performances while Illogic and Aesop are as dope as ever. The production is all about creating atmosphere and Print does it with ease, flipping vocal samples and dusty breaks like a pro. For fans of instrumental hip hop this is an absolute must, Print flexes his creativity over the space of a whole album and never has to say a single word.
